A considerable fame Filaret received major work "The History of the Russian Church" (driven to 1826), released in five editions in Riga and Moscow in 1847-1848 and went through many editions. The author proposed a fundamentally new periodization of Russian church history, dividing it into five periods: from the beginning of Christianity in Russia before the Mongol invasion (988-1237); from the invasion of the Mongols to the Russian division of the Archdiocese (1237-1410); the division of the Archdiocese to the establishment of the patriarchate (1410-1588); Patriarchate period (1589-1720); synodal Office (1721-1826).
