Written, directed, produced and storyboarded by Shinkai Makoto, the 2007 theatrical film "5 Centimeters per Second" is a bittersweet love story built from snapshots of ephemeral daily life.

The film consists of three animated segments: “Cherry Blossom,” which depicts the day Takaki and Akari reunite; “Cosmonaut,” which shows what happens to Takai after that from the perspective of a third party; and "5 Centimeters per Second,” the titular piece that snapshots their wandering souls.
